New Beginnings

I would never have guessed that I would, or could, start a professional blog. I'm not great with words so this seems a bit out of my element. Yet...here I am, about to take off on a new journey to explore how one shares the nuances of home design in a way we can all relate...on a budget.

Now, I'm a little apprehensive to toot my own proverbial horn, but I've been told, I'm great with home design. It's been a long-time obsession, passion, whatever you want to call it...I'm happiest using my creativity to DESIGN. So, this part comes very naturally to me. In the past year and a half I've found myself pushed to the edge of self-discovery and learning just what it is I want to pursue for the rest of life. As an architectural designer for an Edmonton-based home builder over the past 10 years, I've learned LOTS. But I've also realized I have been missing an important element and that was autonomy and the lack of creativity. I also hated how sedentary my job was. So, I've been working toward my Certificate in Residential Interiors from the University of Alberta and I am more than halfway to completion. This fall will be my busiest semester yet with three courses. But, I'm a gluttom for punishment so it is right up my alley.

But, back to what I was lacking...I yearned to learn more and expand my knowledge; or, push my skills to the max. I had already learned quite a bit of on-the-job training but I needed to get my hands dirty. And that, my friends, is how this came to be. I have always appreciated the transformation of something so simple into something grandiose. For example, basic construction materials. Alone they are just materials. But put together with the design of something incredible in mind and the artistic ability of crews to complete the task and there you have it...an architectural masterpiece. Then, there is me...in complete awe of the process. I can't help but marvel at the way things are put together. I was made to pay attention to the details. And I crave it. I walk into a place and my mind deconstructs and re-imagines a space. It is both a blessing and a curse. But, I have been incredibly fortunate to use this talent to transform ordinary spaces into beautiful, magazine worthy rooms and homes.

The purpose of this site is to share how to transform a space and do it on a budget. You don't need a limitless budget to make your home beautiful, trend-setting and uniquely yours. I will show you how to repurpose what you have and make the most of your resources. So please, I invite you to come along this journey and learn the elements of design in a way that is easy to understand and easy on the wallet. I promise it will be full of useful information you can incorporate into your own home. I look forward to transforming spaces together. To design on a dime...cheers!
